Man Sentenced After Biting off Police Officer's Finger During His Arrest |
Mr Anoma Promise, a 25-year-old businessman, who bit off the finger of a police offer, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment an the Accra Circuit Court.
Mr Anoma attacked and bit off the finger of G/Sgt Abu Kwame of the Nungua Police Command in his (Anoma's) residence at Spintex when the Police officer had gone there with his colleague police officer, Corporal Jerry Opei, to arrest the convicted on a case involving him that had been reported to the Nungua Police station.
Mr. Anoma had been reported to the Nungua Police by Henry Andzre Quainoo, a resident of Nungua Zongo, concerning an issue of claiming ownership on a tricycle with registration number M-18-GR7477 between the complainant and the convicted.
The Nungua Police Commander then deployed G/Sgt Abu Kwame and Corporal Jerry Opei to go after the convicted and arrest him to the police station to assist in further investigation. The two officers upon reaching the convict's residence in their quest to arrest him to the police station resulted in a misunderstanding between the officers and Mr Anoma.
Mr Anoma initiated an attack on Corporal Opei but G/Sgt Abu in his attempt to help his colleague officer found his finger eventually entered the mouth of the convicted for him to also bit it to the extent of biting it off.
More Police Officers were later deployed to the scene for the convicted to be escorted to the police station for further investigation, only to be sentenced to prison last Monday by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Ellen Ofei Ayeh.
