Ghana Chosen As An African Country To Manufacture Covid-19 Vaccines By European Commission

Ghana has been selected by the European commission to be the African to produce covid-19 vaccines in the continent. This means that, the European commission has chosen to establish a manufacturing company in Ghana that will manufacture covid-19 vaccines in Africa.

This revelation was made in a recent two-day visit by the president of the republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo, to Belgium from the 19th to 20th may.

According to the acting director of communications, Eugene Arhin, the selection of Ghana to manufacture covid-19 vaccines in Africa was inspired by the initiatives taken already by the Akufo Addo led government towards the production of domestic covid-19 vaccines and the project will be principally sponsored by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

''At the meeting with the Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commission indicated the selection of Ghana as a possible manufacturing hub for COVID-19 vaccines in Africa. This, according to the Commission, follows the initiatives already taken by the Government of President Akufo-Addo towards the domestic manufacturing of vaccines. The taskforce teams from the EU and Ghana will meet shortly to discuss modalities towards the realization of this initiative, which, in principle, could be supported by the European Investment Bank (EIB)'', a statement issued by the Acting Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, read.

In the same visit, Ghana was again hit with yet another good news as the European Union vowed to take Ghana off the list of countries on their money laundering list by June 2021.

''As a consequence of the two-day working visit by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to Brussels, Belgium, from the 19th to 20th May, the European Commission has announced the decision to remove Ghana from the list of countries that are deficient in Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing.

''It is expected that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog, will, in June 2021, announce that Ghana has been taken off its list of high risk, third-world countries with strategic deficiencies in Anti-Money Laundering and Countering of Terrorism Financing,''

the statement continued.
