An Assin Fosu based policeman has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for extorting an amount of GH¢2,000 from some civilians at Assin Fosu within the Central region last Wednesday.
The policeman, G/Sgt Augustine Owusu Ansah, No. 45533, was caught on camera negotiating the quantity with suspects he had arrested for dealing in narcotics and fraud. Police Officer Jailed Over Accepting Bribe
He was heard within the video boasting his superiority to the victims, bragging that he was more senior with his Sergeant rank than the others constables who he claimed have no experience like him on the way to kill the case.
Upon taken the bribed cash, G/Sgt. Ansah was so happy that he declined to count it, claiming he would do when he gets home, without being aware that he was being recorded by the victims who later leaked the video recorded on the social media.
Police investigations revealed that the convict cooked up the baseless allegations against the civilian as an avenue to extort money for his private gain.
The Cape Coast High Court presided over by Mrs. Malike Woanya-Dey found him guilty after his trial and was convicted intrinsically in hard labour after G/Sgt pleaded acquitted to the charge leveled against him.
